Lotto No. 17

Vašíček Aleš (Ostrava 1947)

Impression
topaz glass, fused in a mould, cut, polished, signed, made in 2008, 57 x 60 x 10 cm (Zí)

The work is from the author’s studio.

After studying at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Železný Brod, Aleš Vašíček continued to study under prof. Libenský at the AAAD in Prague, graduating in 1972. Together with his peers Oldřich Plíva, Yan Zoritchak, Pavel, Trnka, and Marian Karel, he represented the new cut “prismatic” sculptures. The authors wanted to use the optical qualities of cut glass, most often crystal. At the end of the 1980s, the author began to work with the fused sculpture technique, for which he won the prominant Grand Prix award in Kanazawa in Japan in 1991. His objects are based on geometric shapes; circles and squares are characteristic for him. The author uses the translucence of the glass and color nuances in the substance of the glass used.
The work on offer, Impression, shows the author’s typical optical contrast between the matte surface of the geometric body, the crystal-shaped notches in this body and the precisely cut lens.
